A Modern Twist on Traditional Kerala Home Design: The Perfect Blend of Style and Tradition

The beautiful state of Kerala, located on the southwestern coast of India, is renowned for its scenic beauty, rich culture, and unique architecture. Traditional Kerala homes, with their distinct sloping roofs and intricate wooden carvings, are a testament to the region's rich history and cultural heritage. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at a stunning 1980 square feet traditional Kerala home design that seamlessly blends modern style with traditional charm.

The exterior of this 184 square meter (220 square yards) home is adorned with several traditional elements, including the odu roofing, wooden gable vent decor with wooden eaves (roofing mugappu), and a wooden finial. These features, coupled with the Kerala traditional charupadi design on the veranda, create a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately transports you to the heart of Kerala.

One of the standout features of this traditional Kerala home design is the beautiful Tulasi Thara situated in front of the house. The Tulasi Thara* is a traditional honor given to women in Kerala during religious ceremonies and is considered to be a mark of respect and reverence. Its presence in front of this stunning home adds to its charm and grace. Design provided by Sreejith Pattazhy from Kollam, Kerala.

*"Kerala Thulasi Thara," which is a traditional honor given to women in the Indian state of Kerala. It is a custom where a woman is honored with a seat made of sacred basil leaves (Tulasi) during religious ceremonies and rituals. The seat is considered to be a mark of respect and reverence, and it signifies the importance of the woman's role in the family and society. During the ceremony, the woman is usually dressed in traditional attire and is adorned with flowers and jewelry. She is then seated on the Tulasi Thara, and prayers and rituals are performed. The custom is believed to have originated from the belief that women are the embodiment of the divine mother and are worthy of reverence and respect.
